3 Revenge tactics to get back to your cheating partner

lizzie tanners on May-29-2008

Have you ever wondered why is it that when a man has another partner, it is ok but when a woman does the same, she would be viewed as a lusty girl synonymous with a prostitute? They both should be treated equal and as designed by God, we are to be monogamous.

A lawyer in Texas gets an emergency call from a Los Angeles client that requires him to go there immediately. He doesn’t even have time to fix his things and go home so, he just calls home to inform his wife about the trip.

The maid was hesitant in putting his wife on the phone but after a few threats and interrogation, she admitted that her wife was upstairs, doing some deeds with the mail man. As much as he wants to furiously rush home, he had to go somewhere. So, he just informed the maid to get his gun in a secret drawer and kill them both.

The maid of course, protested but, after explaining the laws in texas that it is legal to kill someone who commits adultery, the maid killed the two secret lovers.

The maid comes back to the phone. The lawyer asked, “Did you kill them?”

“Yes”, was the reply of the maid. The lawyer asked a follow up question.
“What did you do with the bodies?”
“I threw them in the pool”, was the maids response.

After a long pause from the lawyer, he asked, “Did you say the pool?”

“Yes! I threw them in the pool!”, she said.

“Uh, is this 900-4876?”

If you are the girl, then, below are 3 tactics on how to get back to your man and release the EVIL in you.

Many are called but few will be chosen for the HP book prequel

lizzie tanners on May-28-2008

CNN reported that multimillionaire and probably one of the most successful and influential authors in the world, J.K. Rowling, has wrote an 800-word prequel to the Harry Potter series.  This should have been good news to the HP fans, including me, but the catch?  It would just be sold to a few via a charity auction.

Bummer, it would have been interesting to read this prequel.  But then, she’s coming with some kind of an encyclopedia which will give further backgrounds about all of HP’s characters.  Now, that is something to look forward as well.

I feel there will still be some new buzz about the Harry Potter series, like what she did last year, when she announced that Dumbledore was gay.

For my part, even if I won’t be able to get that prequel, I still can indulge on Harry Potter might-have-beens courtesy of fanfiction.  So, no worries, really.

A happiness cut short

lizzie tanners on May-26-2008

This story is a proof that too much of everything, even happiness can be life-threatening.

KIm Efkarpides, a gradeschool teacher in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, died in the arms of her groom while they were on their first dance.  This is indeed a sad story, her wedding day was supposed to be one of the happiest of her life and she just went dead.

Reports said that she died of a heart attack due to complications from diabetes.  I cannot imagine how devastating it is right now for her family and her newly-wed groom.  I knew a friend of a friend who died the morning after their wedding.  His bride just woke up and found out he wasn’t breathing but lay peacefully on their bed.

This real life stories just make afraid of being totally happy as it can mean that it can increase whatever health complications I have.  But then life isn’t about being just breathing, it’s about breathing happily and being glad of the oxygen we are able to inhale.

But then again, it still feels sad that their lives where shortened just after they have experienced  the ultimate happiness, but then, at least they died with the feeling that true happiness still exists.  In some ways, I envy them.  I’m pretty sure they are in a good place now.

Destinations to go before they get mapped out

lizzie tanners on May-26-2008

I thought of departing from the tradition of discovering and featuring hidden places and thought of discussing the popular ones, which in it’s popularity is now being dreaded to disappear in a few years or so. They are either ruined by natural disasters, which are not so natural anymore due to global warming and by man slaughtering.

1. The Great Barrier reef in Australia

Due to warming of sea temperatures, the corals here are losing their color and fade. Now, the culprit here is global warming. This destination is home to the madrepore coral, which are essential to the formation of reefs in the island. In a span of ten years, the reef has suffered two of its worst ever coral bleaching events. There has also been an ongoing four-fold increase in the harvest of sharks and manta rays and a decline in the number of nesting loggerhead turtles by 80%.

2. The Amazon Rainforest in Brazil

More than 20% of the Amazon Rainforest has already been destroyed as large tracts of the forest have been parceled out to various private groups engaged in logging, coffee production, and hydroelectrics. As the result, the wildlife and plant life are under the threat of extinction.

3. Goa in India

This place is best known for its ayurvedic centers which attract wellness lovers. However, as if typhoons that destroy the coasts of the Indian continent weren’t enough , this small ex-Portuguese enclave is at risk of ending up like Macau, where millions of tourists arrive, attracted by glitzy casinos. The Indian government has approved the opening of 10 new casinos ( some floating).

4. The Himalayas

The home to Mt. Everest, which I don’t have to describe, is on its way to being snow-deprived if global warming continues. It has bear the brunt of deforestation, population growth, and the onslaught of tourists during springtime. At first glance, there’s nothing wrong with that right? But the climbing expeditions overcrowd the mountain and worsen the environmental problems.

5. The Babuyan islands in the Philippines

It’s not a tourist destination but our airborne friends go here during their yearly migration to the south. Two snake species and 13 sub species are found in its biggest island, Calayan. This place is seen as a future breeding ground for humping whales. But, rampant use of dynamite to salvage shipwrecks and unchecked slash-and-burn farming are already threatening their habitat.

6. Toliara in Madagascar

This country is an island nation off the southern coast of Africa. It is home to 5% of the world’s animal and plant species. The Isalo National Park which is about 80,000 hectares is only one of the over 40 protected areas in this country. But illegal and unregulated mining of sapphires in nearby Ilakaka has been a threat to the park for years now. Further expansions of illicit mining activities may permanently deface the landscape and drive away its inhabitants.

These paradises cannot wait any longer for the more environment cautious tourists. The destruction they are suffering are either due to climate change or man-made damaging acts. But then again, climate change has something to do with human acts, as strongly emphasized by numerous global warming documentaries.

The result of working 7 days straight

lizzie tanners on May-25-2008

I have been working 7 days straight and I can’t imagine how I was able to survive.  During those 7 days, only managed to sleep for about 3 hours and ate once a day.  I thought I was going to be hospitalized.  But fortunately (or unfortunately?!) I wasn’t rushed to the hospital.

There are times when I wished that I would just collapse and lose consciousness just to be free from all of this stress. From the bosses, from the mediocre coworkers and from the bills.  But the good thing about the work I gave was that I was able to buy a hard drive for my PC as it crashed at 1 a.m.,Thursday morning. Work, when will you ever be easy?

60,000 lives claimed in 3 minutes

lizzie tanners on May-25-2008

As the rescue efforts in Southwestern China turn from finding survivors to recovering dead bodies, we still hear stories of merely alive old people who were rescued from the rubbles.  It is relieving and still one can feel gratefulness amidst this tragedy.

To date, there are more than 60,000 that are feared dead and the estimate is dreaded to go higher in the coming days.  Imagine, almost a hundred thousand people dead in just a matter in 3 minutes of 7.9 magnitude of earthquake.

Sichuan province’s governor estimated that it will take 3 full years for them to make a full recovery.  And while this seems long, it is good to see that the communist country has opened up to foreign aid, and even foreign attention.  They kept out foreign media to report on the earthquake that claim 250,000 people 30 years ago and now they have allowed international journalists to the heart of the destruction as to let the world know that the damage is really serious in every sense of the word.

Hopefully, they can still dug out survivors and rebuilt faster.  Thinking of the makeshift tents along the streets full of children makes one feel grateful that we have a concrete roof above our heads.
