5 worst movie remakes of all time

lizzie tanners on Jun-2-2008

One of my favorite weekender past times is watching movies. It is a good way to relax your mind and keep work off your head for a while. You just need to fully enjoy the movie and try stop acting like a big time movie critic, pointing out flaws on the effects and realism of each scene. That is sometimes the problem with adults. We think we are too wise to be fooled but, in reality, we should only be relaxing. Look at the kids watch movies. They just laugh their hearts out. If you think the movie is really bad, then, you won’t need to lift a finger and the news will spread like wildfire.

If the movie on the other hand is great, I suggest that the director better leave it alone, unless there is really a sequel or trilogy to it. Most people loved a particular movie and wanted more but, you cannot always give people what they want unless you are ready to disappoint them. The challenge for movie remakes is for directors to supersede the older version or else, it will flop faster than water rushing down the falls.

Sad but, I have to admit that I, myself will be a critic for this article but, I am a critic with supporting facts. You can see the worst movie remakes below.

1. The Fog – In an attempt to recreate a follow-up film for his classic work, Halloween, The film “The Fog” had some great moments but, to this day, I cannot even remember the entire movie. That is one sure sign that a movie was really to pass the time back then and not for memories sake. The creepy atmosphere is gone, worst than bewitched, bad news bears and house of wax combined and is as scary as Scooby-Doo 2 according to Alex Sandell.

2. Wicker Man – How can they call it remake when they made significant changes to it? The original place was setup in Europe and the remake was taken in United States but the filming actually took place on Canada. Malus, a character in the movie was not a virgin unlike Howie, another character. They just thought it was ridiculous in the modern American society to have an adult virgin. Unlike the old one, Rowan, is now the protagonists daughter.

3. Rollerball – Honestly, after buying the DVD version of this, I never even watched 5 minutes of it. I was in deep regret on why I made a bad decision on purchasing this film. Besides from being a life threatening insanely ridiculous roller sport, this lacks social and political commentary of the original 1975 sci-fi thriller version of it. We will just quote what LL Cool J said to Conan O’Brien. “It Sucked”. You might as well get owned by a ball.

4. House of wax – Yes, Paris was a blond hot chick sporting her cleavage with red undies in a death scene. That was it. The film simply lacked chills and thrills to make up for the original 1953 original film with an almost same name. It has a similarity to Manos, The Hands of Fate instead of the House of Wax.

5. Psycho – This movie, got the Golden Raspberry Award for worst remake or Sequel or Worst Director. Need I say more?

So, next time, remember to read reviews first before buying DVD films for home viewing. You might regret wasting money on those and maybe you would want to donate it to charity instead and help mankind.

These movies did injustice to their predecessors…

The term, love is lovelier the second time around, doesn’t necessarily apply to certain films. Sometimes, it’s best to just leave the original ones by themselves. It’s a risk remaking movies, especially if the first one was really good. So, here …

Nice list. I typically hate remakes myself. I am often ranting over the ones that are coming down the pipes.
